Read MoreThe holiday season is approaching, which means you are probably scrambling to make plans. If you enjoy outdoor activities, skiing and snowboarding are a great, fun way to spend the holidays with your family. There are plenty of options for skiing near Toronto, and in this article, we’re listing some of our favourite ski spots to visit with your loved ones this holiday season.
Blue Mountain is a beautiful winter village with an endless amount of activities for families. As the largest ski resort in Ontario, Blue Mountain has a lot to offer. The amenities include two terrain parks, 13 lifts, over 40 trails, and some of the highest vertical drops in Ontario.
Blue Mountain Ski Resort gives visitors a place to stay overnight. After a long drive up north, it’s always easier to make a weekend out of it. For those who don’t own ski equipment, there are many options available for ski rentals in the Blue Mountains
The only downside to staying right at Blue Mountain Resort, it’s typically more expensive than private Blue Mountain rentals and tends to be much more crowded, especially during the holiday season. That doesn’t mean staying overnight in The Blue Mountain isn’t an option. Here at Getawaystays, we offer a wide range of Blue Mountain chalet rentals, weekend, monthly and seasonal Blue Mountain rentals, and even ski vacation homes. For a much more affordable stay during your ski trip, this is a great option to consider.
Although The Blue Mountains is the go-to ski vacation destination, there are plenty of other locations just outside of Toronto to visit:
Only an hour’s drive from Toronto, Hockley Valley is also a great ski resort near Blue Mountain. This resort includes three surface lifts, two quads, 16 trails for downhill skiing and snowboarding, an expanded terrain park, a beginner terrain, and a half pipe. Hockley Valley is an excellent option for beginners as it is a much smaller scale, and offers numerous accommodations to suit inexperienced skiers. Staying overnight is also an option here, as the resort features 100 guest rooms.
This quaint resort is northeast of Barrie, about an hour’s drive from Toronto. Horseshoe Resort features 29 alpine ski and snowboard runs, 40 kilometres of Nordic trails, a competition-level half pipe, a terrain park, and two championship golf courses. For pet lovers, this resort is also dog-friendly! Holiday rentals are easily accessible for those looking to make a weekend out of the trip.
A smaller ski resort, Hidden Valley Highlands is a great destination for skiing and snowboarding, with many trails suitable for experts and beginners alike. The Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area also has a snow school where you can take your kids to learn how to ski and snowboard.
Hidden Valley Park is a bit of a commute from Toronto, about a two-hour drive away. If you’re willing to travel that far out of the city this winter season, we recommend you stay there overnight to really explore the area and what its ski resorts have to offer. Winter chalet rentals are abundant around the hidden valley area. All you have to do is book your trip and you’re ready to go!
With so many beautiful resorts, finding the right destination for your family this Holiday season shouldn’t be too hard. Whether you are looking to find a cottage in Blue Mountain, rent a home near Hockley Valley, or stay a weekend near Horseshoe Resort, Getawaystays can make it happen.
