How to Set Up Your Home for Short-Term Rentals

Vacation & short-term rentals have become a very lucrative business worldwide especially with more and more people relying on Airbnb and the likes for booking vacation homes. Additionally, many corporations look for short-term rentals for their employees visiting a region for a short period. Whatever the reason, short-term rentals can help you generate income at ease, especially if your property is located somewhere with a high influx of local and international tourists.

If you are considering using your home as a vacation rental and not certain how to get going, you are at the right place.

However, before you list out your property for a short-term rental, there are a few things you want to consider and a few facelifts you might want for your property to get top dollar.

Know What You Want to Do

The first thing to do is to consider how long you are looking to rent out your property. It could be anywhere from days to a few weeks, or a few months. You could choose to make it available all year for different short-term rentals and still have the flexibility of booking times off for when you want to enjoy your property as well (we can help with that!).

Give it a Little Facelift

Once you have decided that it’s time to give your property a bit of a makeover to make it comfortable, fix any hazardous issues like loose wiring, cracked counter tops and broken lights. Repaint the interior to give it a fresh and welcoming feel. For vacation-rental clients, it’s best to keep the feel cozy with clean, open spaces, indoor planters and a minimalistic interior.

Clean Your Home Thoroughly

When the uplift is done, clean your home thoroughly. Make sure the bed linens are nice and clean. Vacuum the rugs and carpets to clean off all the dust. Use anti-septic and anti-bacterial cleaners, and once you are done, spray with an air freshener or simply light up a few scented candles so that your home smells fresh and clean.

Add Basic Amenities

Once you are done with the face lifting of your property, add basic amenities to your rental. Think of convenient appliances like a dish washer, coffee machine, blender, a kettle and anything else the guests may appreciate. Don’t forget to include a smart TV or one that offers streaming services, so that guests can easily be entertained if they choose to sit back and watch a movie. To add a personal touch, you can always add welcome tokens such as a basket including a few chocolates, wine, scented candles, and the likes.

Take Tons of Great Photos & Advertise

Nothing sells until the pictures are great. Set up a photoshoot and highlight the best features of your property to attract people. It’s best to do a photoshoot with props and with natural light to give your home a warm and welcome feel.

With all of that done, hire us to do your property management, sit back and let your passive income roll.
